El Kanemi Warriors goalkeeper, Yekini Kazeem has called a-must-win his side’s top-flight clash against Wikki Tourists.
The Maiduguri Warriors are hosts of the Bauchi outfit in Thursday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 2 clash at the Maiduguri Township Stadium.
Kazeem said the side’s target to earn a spot in Africa in the on-going season will be put to question if they fail to claim the maximum points after matchday 1 defeat at Rivers United.
“We are taking the top-flight clash against Wikki Tourists as a-must-win match at least to reclaim the points we lost at Rivers United.
“Besides, we have a target to secure a spot on the continent and the dream will come to nothing if we did not start almost immediately to garner points.
“Of course, it will be a sour taste on the mouth of our teeming supporters to lose in Port Harcourt as well as in Maiduguri.
“We have not lost any match on home ground in Maiduguri since we relocated to the place and it’s our desire to keep the record intact.
“The encounter is almost a derby given the closeness and rivalry between the sides so fierce contest will be on display.
“Each time both sides clash there is always this confidence in the players that their side will win.
“We have trained hard to ensure we win the first home match which will serve as morale boost going into subsequent matches,” said the former Bayelsa and Kwara United shot stopper to supersport.com.
El Kanemi Warriors went down 1-2 to Rivers United in Port Harcourt coming into the crunch clash while Wikki Tourists shared the spoils with Nasarawa United in Bauchi.
