The National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, will spend N935 million on the provision of health coverage to an estimated 63,750 new enrollees in five states this year.
The five states expected to present the fresh enrollees are Imo (31,250), Kogi (2,500), Kaduna (10,000), Akwa-Ibom (1,250), and Nasarawa (20,000).
However, the spending will not be state-wide but targeted at selected Local Government Areas, LGAs.
Some target LGAs in Imo state are Ehime-Mbano, Obowo, and Ihite-Uboma. In Nasarawa state Eggon, Akwanga, and Wamba will benefit from the N300m fresh health coverage to be provided this year.
In Kogi and Akwa-Ibom states, NHIS is expected to cover Okene and Essien-Udim LGAs of the respective state for N18.75m and N37.5m.
Additionally, NHIS will be spending another N64m on an undisclosed number of citizens in need of maternal and child healthcare across the 36 states and the FCT; bringing the total spending on the coverage of new enrollees to the Scheme to N999,000,000.
