– An eight-year-old girl has lost her life after a downpour in Onitsha, Anambra state, on Friday, April 20 – She was said to be returning from church when the incident happened – The deceased, Oluebube Nwanedo, hailed from Umuezike in Orlu local government area of the state Following a downpour on Friday, April 20, Onitsha, an eight-year-old girl was swept away in Onitsha, Anambra state. Valuables belonging to residents were also said to have been swept away by the flood The deceased, identified as Oluebube Nwanedo, was was found dead in a water channel along Old Market road on Saturday, April 21.

Nwanedo was said to be a primary four pupil of Holy Child Primary school Onitsha.

The deceased, who hailed from Umuezike in Orlu local government area of Imo state, was the first child of her parents. While narrating her ordeal, Nwanedo’s mother said the incident happened when her little daughter was returning from church after the downpour. She said: “She was on her way back home from a Block Rosary Centre at Benjamin’s lane after a down pour when her slippers slipped off her legs and fell into the flooded drainage. In an attempt to retrieve the slippers, she was swept off by the flood.” According to her, efforts made by passersby to rescue the little girl failed. She said her corpse was later found after a long search.
